Common mistakes

  1. Incomplete Information: Many applicants fail to fill out all required fields, such as the name of the firm, contact information, and the type of services offered. Omitting any of this information can delay the registration process.

  2. Incorrect Submission Date: Some individuals do not submit the form by the January 1 deadline, which is essential for maintaining annual registration. Missing this date can result in ineligibility for contracts throughout the year.

  3. Failure to Check Appropriate Boxes: Applicants often neglect to check all relevant boxes regarding their firm's status, such as whether they are a prime contractor or a certified DBE. This oversight can lead to misclassification.

  4. Missing Signature: Some forms are submitted without the required signature of a company representative. A missing signature can invalidate the submission, requiring resubmission and further delays.

  5. Inaccurate Financial Information: Providing incorrect gross annual receipts can lead to disqualification. It is crucial to ensure that the financial figures reported are accurate and reflect the last three years.

  6. Omitting Required Documentation: Some applicants do not include necessary documents for SBE certification, such as tax returns or financial statements. Not providing these documents can hinder the approval process.

  7. Incorrect Contact Information: Providing outdated or incorrect contact details can lead to communication issues. Ensure that the telephone number, fax number, and email address are current and accurate.

  8. Not Reviewing the Form: Failing to double-check the completed form before submission often results in simple errors that could have been avoided. A thorough review can catch mistakes that may otherwise delay processing.
